TOOTH REPLACEMENT Leicestershire

Tooth and Teeth Replacement in Countesthorpe, Leicestershire

We aim to preserve natural teeth whenever possible, using the most appropriate treatments to restore health and function. However, in some cases—such as severe decay, trauma, or advanced gum disease—extraction may be necessary to protect overall oral health.

If teeth are lost, there are several effective replacement options available, including dental implants, bridges, and dentures. Replacing missing teeth not only improves appearance but also supports proper function, prevents shifting of remaining teeth, and helps maintain jawbone health. Our team will guide you through the most suitable options for your individual needs.

Sometimes replacement of missing teeth requires a combination of the three treatment modalities to achieve an acceptable cosmetic/functional result.

Read about Dental Implants, Bridges and Dentures below.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth. It typically relies on the adjacent healthy natural teeth to support the artificial tooth/teeth. Several types of bridges are available, and your dentist will recommend the most appropriate option based on your individual clinical needs.

While bridges are securely fixed in place, they require regular cleaning and maintenance—just like natural teeth—to ensure their long-term success and to maintain overall oral health.

Dentures

A denture is a removable appliance designed to replace one or multiple missing teeth, up to a full arch. Various types of dentures are available, and your dentist will recommend the most suitable option based on your individual needs and oral health.

For patients who experience instability or discomfort with conventional dentures, implant-retained dentures may be a more secure and comfortable alternative, offering improved function and confidence.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

A dental implant is frequently regarded as the ideal replacement for a missing tooth. Once placed, the implant becomes firmly attached to your jawbone and provides the foundation for a crown, bridge or denture. The restored implant aims to closely resemble a natural tooth meaning you can smile and laugh with complete confidence and enjoy the food you love to eat.

Advantages of dental implants?

Implants are widely regarded as the best long-term solution for missing teeth. Benefits include improved appearance, comfort, speech, self-esteem, and protection for remaining teeth.

How many implants will I need?

This depends on your individual case. A single missing tooth usually requires one implant, while larger gaps may not need one implant per tooth. To stabilise dentures, typically 2–4 implants are recommended. Jawbone quantity and quality are also key considerations.

Will I need any treatment before placement?

Planning often involves dental impressions, 3D scans, and a custom surgical guide for precise placement. If there is insufficient bone, a bone graft may be required—using either your own bone or a bone substitute—typically followed by a healing period before implant placement.

Is the procedure uncomfortable?

Implants are usually placed using local anaesthetic only, with some of our patients falling asleep during treatment. The digitally designed templates used to ensure precise implant positioning also reduce the length of time for the procedure, which in turn minimises any discomfort after the procedure. If many implants are to be placed then the use of sedation may be suggested. You will be given a sedative through a vein in your arm or hand. During treatment under sedation you will remain conscious but will remember very little at the end of treatment.

When will the final restoration be fitted?

Usually, a crown or denture is placed 2–3 months after implant placement, once the bone has fully integrated. Temporary teeth are provided during the healing period.

What can I do to help?

Being in good general health, avoiding smoking or heavy drinking, and treating any gum disease beforehand are essential. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene and attending regular dental visits will support implant success.

How long will implants last?

With proper care, implants can last many years. Like natural teeth, they may require maintenance or repair over time. Implant-supported dentures often need more upkeep than fixed implant teeth.

Can implants fail?

Yes, but failure rates are low—under 5%. Early failure can happen if the implant doesn’t bond with the bone; later issues often result from poor hygiene or excessive pressure on the implant.
