As many of our loyal patients will know, Ritesh and I set up RD Dental in Countesthorpe, Leicestershire, back in 2015.
Whilst the practice was developing, I continued to work as a General Dentist at a mixed NHS and Private practice in Rugby (as well as working behind the scenes at RD Dental).
It’s been an incredible journey with many up and downs, but thankfully more ups, mainly due to our lovely patients. Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of getting to know some of you as I left my position at Rugby and solely focused on providing dental care here at RD Dental.
Recently, we have completed the expansion of our practice, adding in an extra surgery and welcoming new members to our team.
It is with this expansion, that sparked my motivation to really start focusing on Medial Aesthetics. This is something that I first trained in over 12 years ago back when I used to work in London and I continued to offer these services alongside my dental career. A few years ago, I took a break from the aesthetic world to focus on my growing family but still maintained my interest within the field via courses, journals and seminars. More recently, I have spent time being mentored in various treatments (under the tutelage of a fantastic doctor and facial aesthetic practitioner) and am delighted to now be offering a range of these at RD Dental.
So, what is Medical Aesthetics?
These are ‘anti-aging’ treatments mainly performed on the face but can also include the hands, neck and decolletage area. The treatments require precise application so thorough knowledge of facial and the surrounding anatomy is of paramount importance, which, as dentists is something we are very familiar with.
The most talked about treatments are wrinkle-softening injections (to smooth away worry lines, frown lines and crow’s feet) and dermal fillers (which aim to restore areas where collagen has diminished as well as allowing for enhancement of other areas such as the lips).
It also possible correct a ‘gummy smile’ (when excess gum above the teeth shows when one smiles), re-balance a set back mandible (lower jaw), reduce symptoms of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and reduce tension/pain in the jaw and/or head due to grinding or clenching your teeth (also known as ‘jaw-line slimming’).
Medical Aesthetics also incliudes medical grade skin care to help tackle problems such as fine lines, acne and pigmentation problems.
I am passionate about delivering safe, effective care hence the products I choose to use will be the gold standard within the field of medical/facial aesthetics. From softening expression lines to restoring lost volume, these are bespoke treatments therefore the first step will be getting to know you and your needs via a thorough face to face consultation.
Being a mum of 3 myself I have noticed how my own skin has changed over the years (particularly having weathered the many nights of interrupted sleep!) and I value how small steps within skin care as well as anti-aging treatments can make a big difference in the long term.
I don’t believe in the fake, overdone look- it’s not my ethos and having two daughters it’s definitely not something I want them to grow up thinking is the norm. However, with subtle tweakments and a specific skin care regime, I feel we can all age gracefully and enhance our beauty and confidence.
Look out for my next blog where I’ll be explaining some of the treatments we have to offer in more detail!
Best wishes,
